Sunshine Coast Health Centre Announces New Post on “Just Say No” and the Merits of a Non 12 Step Drug Rehabilitation Method

March **, 2022 –  Vancouver, BC

Sunshine Coast Health Centre (https://www.sunshinecoasthealthcentre.ca/), a top-rated drug rehabilitation, alcohol treatment, and trauma / PTSD program in British Columbia and throughout Canada, is proud to announce a new post to its blog that reviews the “Just Say No” anti-drug strategy. The strategy is implicitly contrasted in the post with the Centre’s more modern “Non 12 Step Methodology” that empowers clients and is based on Viktor Frankl’s logotherapy.

“The post discusses the ‘Just Say No’ philosophy, which many people are familiar with from a few years back,” explained Casey Jordan, Chief Marketing Officer. “The main problem with that philosophy is it tends to blame persons who struggle with addiction even though negative blaming does not tend to produce strong, evidence-based results.”

Persons who would like to read the post in its entirety can visit https://www.sunshinecoasthealthcentre.ca/why-just-say-no-will-never-work/. The post argues that the main issue with “Just Say No” is that it blames the person struggling with addiction without providing a positive environment that empowers the person to take charge of their life story. Second, the “Just Say No” philosophy ignores social and group-related factors that encourage addictive behaviour and drug abuse. Finally, and perhaps most controversially, the post goes on to point out that in some situations such as music and art, drug use has not been entirely a negative event.

Be that as it may, the post contrasts the “Just Say No” philosophy with the Non 12 Step methodology used by the Centre based on the pioneering work of Viktor Frankl. This methodology is in direct contrast. First, it empowers the client to be an active partner in charting their life story. It is goal-oriented and forward-looking rather than blame-oriented and backwards-looking. Second, it looks at societal and group factors and assists the client in nurturing a healthy and supporting environment that can encourage a healthy lifestyle.
